Hey everyone!

Rather than a book review I thought this post could be a good old list of recommendations. All of which are by the brilliant John Green! These were the books that led to me falling in love with reading again. As a small child I would always be found up past my bedtime trying (and failing) to sneak around reading. I’d spend my break times and lunch times at school with my head in a book. But at around 12 I lost that passion and really struggled to pick up a book. Until a friend recommended Looking for Alaska a couple of years ago. After this my lovely mother bought me the rest of the books and I found my passion once again. It only seems right to dedicate a whole piece to John Green and his wonderful creations. So here is my list of recommendations, alongside the blurbs for all in case you need a little more convincing to read them.

Looking For Alaska.

“ ‘If people were rain, I was drizzle and she was a hurricane.’

Miles Halter’s whole life has been one big non-event, until he meets Alaska Young.

Gorgeous, clever and undoubtedly screwed up, Alaska draws Miles into her reckless world and irrevocably steals his heart. For Miles, nothing can ever be the same again.”

The Fault In Our Stars.

“Despite the tumour-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.”

Paper Towns.

“ ‘The thing about Margo Roth Spiegelman is that really all I could ever do was let her talk, ad then when she stopped talking encourage her to go on, due to the facts that

1. I was incontestably in love with her, and

2. 2. She was absolutely unprecedented in every way, and

3. She never really asked me any questions. . .’

Quentin Jacobsen has always loved Margo from afar. So when she climbs through his window to summon him on an all-night road trip of revenge he cannot help but follow. But the next morning, Q turns up at school and Margo doesn’t. She’s left clues to her disappearance, like a trail of breadcrumbs for Q to follow.

And everything leads to one unavoidable question:

Who is the real Margo?”

An Abundance of Katherine’s.

19 Katherines and counting. . .

When it comes to relationships Colin Singleton’s type is girls named Katherine. And when it comes to girls named Katherina, Colin is always getting dumped. Nineteen times, to be exact.

On a road trip miles from home, this anagram-happy, washed-up child prodigy has ten thousand dollars in his pocket, a blood-thirsty feral hog on his trail, and an overweight Judge-Judy loving best friend riding shotgun – but no Katherines. Colin is on a mission to prove The Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability, which he hope will predict the future of any relationship, avenge Dumpees everywhere, and finally win him the girl.”

Will Grayson, Will Grayson.

“Will Grayson, meet Will Grayson.

One cold night, in a most unlikely corner of Chicago, two strangers cross paths. Two teens with the same name, running in two very different circles, suddenly find their lives going in new and unexpected directions, culminating in heroic turns-of-heart and the most epic musical ever to grace the high-school stage.”

Let It Snow.

“The worst blizzard for fifty years. Three wintery love stories. One magical night.

It’s Christmas Eve and Gracetown has been buried by snow. But the weather is more than just an inconvenience. When one girl unexpectedly steps off a stranded train, she sets off a series of life-changing events.

Soon fourteen pumped-up cheerleaders will descend on the local Waffle House, the Duke’s DVD night will be rudely interrupted for a Twister mission, and a lovesick barista will determine the fate of a single teacup pig. . .

As the three stories collide, strangers cross paths and romance blossoms with heart-warming consequences.”

Turtles All The Way Down.

“Sixteen-year-old Aza never intended to pursue the mystery of fugitive billionaire Russell Pickett, but there’s a hundred-thousand-dollar reward at stake and her Best and Most Fearless Friend, Daisy, is eager to investigate. So together they navigate the short distance and broad divides that separate them from Russell Pickett’s son Davis.

Aza is trying. She is trying to be a good daughter, a good friend, a good student and maybe even a good detective, while also living within the ever-tightening spiral of her own thoughts.”

Each of these stories holds such a special and important place in my heart and I hope you see something you like on this list. I really want to encourage people and nurture reading passions after finding me own. I’d love to hear which stories are close to your hearts too.

Stay Curious!
